Hellboy Gets Wrapped Up
in Mummy Derring-Do in Makoma
Dark Horse Comics' Hellboy: Makoma #1 (DEC050013,
$2.99) thrusts the devilish adventurer into the heart of African mythology
in a two-issue story cryptically subtitled "A Tale Told By a Mummy
in the New York City Explorers' Club on August 16, 1993." Award-winning Hellboy creator Mike Mignola teams with comic book legend Richard Corben, who has been creating bizarre and beautiful comics since the '70s. Working on the most notable horror and sci-fi titles of the original small-press boom, his work was even translated to the big screen in the film Heavy Metal, and fans of the artist's distinctive art style will not believe their eyes when they see his take on Hellboy. Set immediately preceding the original Hellboy story, Seed of Destruction, this tale reveals Hellboy's earlier encounter with the powerful mythology of Africa. Mignola writes, provides the cover, and draws part of the story, in the collaboration that promises to be the horror comics event of the year. Hellboy: Makoma #1 is scheduled to arrive in shipments February 1.
